Samhain reveals the dark side of our collective psyche
Samhain Season 2024
Natal chart is a window to the soul
My Sun is conjunct Pluto in Scorpio
Ireland is the home of Samhain
Halloween comes from Samhain
This time last year - 31st October 2023
I was in Sydney. Eora Nation as I prefer to call it. It’s original name.
Halloween / Samhain is not indigenous to so called Australia.
To me celebrating Halloween / Samhain in so-called Australia is not natural.
It’s annoying to me when new age spiritual communities practice and celebrate Samhain - an ancient Gaelic festival - innately connected to the geographical regions of Scotland and Ireland - in places like the Carribean, California and even Australia. Samhain marks the beginning of Winter. In Sydney its coming into Summer on the 31st october. Celebrating Samhain outside of its indigenous place is completely disrespectful of that places native people and culture. Samhain is mean to be cold and autumnal. It’s a vibe that cannot be recreated in fucking Topenga or Singapore or Byron Bay. Jesus Christ.
This year I am back in Athlone.
I am able to properly sink into Samhain energy here in a way that I have never done before. The darkness, the beginning of Winter.
‘Samhain Season - the thinning of the veil’
Up until this Samhain season I have always understood this - intellectually.
During Samhain season it’s easier to see into the underworld
What is the underworld - it’s the part of ourselves and our collective that we are not aware of. The unconscious. The habits, desires, behaviours, parts of ourselves that have become hidden.
So many unseen (and some downright UGLY) parts of my psyche and the collective are being revealed to me during Samhain season. The ugly parts of my personality have been revealed through the exasperation of people I am close with (some no longer close with). Thanks for revealing the truth to me. I needed to see it. They hate me because I hurt them and it destroyed our connection - which may never come back.
Becoming aware of our dark side is so important because without seeing this - without light being shone on these darker evil energies - they become repressed - we will never transcend them. I believe this is real on both an individual and collective level.
Indigenous cultures know and practice this.
Back to where I am sitting as I write this. In a former workhouse building. I write this from my art studio in Athlone, Ireland which is based in a former workhouse building in Ireland built when we were ruled by the British Empire whilst they were practicing a new land system which transferred land from communities to British landlords to make Irish people poor. Workhouses were a form of ‘social welfare at the time’. George Wilkinson the builder / architect had built 8 workhouses in England by the time he was 21. In Ireland 84 of these generic designed were under construction by 1840
In 1887, a troubling scene unfolded as police enacted evictions that left many families homeless. Amidst the chaos, officers set houses ablaze, a drastic measure that emphasized the desperate circumstances of the time. The fiery destruction served as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggles between authority and the rights of citizens. Communities were torn apart, and the sight of flames consumed not just buildings but also the hopes and stability of those who called them home. This event marked a significant moment in the larger narrative of social unrest and the fight for land and housing rights, echoing issues that continue to resonate in modern society.
‘Psyche is not in us
We are in psyche
The soul of the world”
